Gold price hits three-week high on weak USD, latest FOMC decision.
Gold held steady around $US1,720/oz ahead of the FOMC rates decision earlier this week.“Such a lull is often the prologue to a good move,” said Alex Kuptsikevich, FxPro senior market analyst, and he was right.Thursday (post-FOMC decision) was a big day for gold, which soared to ~$US1,760/oz.

'The return of a Bull Market’

Having taken our formidable resistance at $US1745.00 an ounce overnight, the technical picture has convincing swung higher, OANDA’s Jeffrey Halley says.

“Gold should now trade back towards $1800.00 over the coming weeks if US yields remain soft,” he says.

Prior to the rates decision, FxPro’s Kuptsikevich said gold was already holding up relatively well in the face of unprecedented monetary policy tightening and a slowing global economy.

“Ten years ago, in similar macro circumstances, the price gave up around 70% of the previous rally,” he says.

“It is often the case that August-September lays the foundations for a new long-term trend in gold.
