Actually I believe your 16.6 mm EVs is a bit stale, being as of early 2022, so as it’s now early 2023 you could add most of the 10.5 mm produced last year. It’s growing fast from a small base.

Regardless you are looking at a lagging indicator of auto electrification, the fleet size. Better to look at a leading indicator like annual sales % which is now close to 10% globally. Even better look at the increase in battery production capacity, factory conversions etc, it’s not slowing down.

But yes as far as persistence of a (soon) shrinking ICE fleet (I guess the ultimate trialing indicator), that will be for several decades. But best not judge a global transition by the sluggishness you see in Australia. Perhaps look at Norway instead, or China.
