Avenira Limited aims to be one of a select few to have LFP cathode manufacturing running outside of China in the near future while avoiding contractual relations with Chinese companies, initially relying on Aleees’s existing supply chain until the company’s phosphate mine is up and producing feedstock. Ford Motor Company has shown that while it is currently possible for companies looking to supply the North American market with LFP batteries of Chinese origin through its IP licensing agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), this might prove to be short-lived if Republican lawmakers get their way in obstructing or blocking the deal. Worsening political relations between the two nations would give credence to blocking this deal as while it is a financially sound decision for Ford, it continues to perpetuate US reliance on Chinese battery technology and is why facilities like Avenira’s will become increasingly important to western offtakers.
