it’s a tactic used by the trading desks at trading platforms to lock in the trade. Basically if they get a $10 commission for each trade then its money for jam to spend a couple of cents and lock in the $10. See it all the time on the platform I use. Have to remember to keep extending the expiry so it’s not wasted.
