However commentary on the topic by management (in the Quarterly I believe), says that due to the issue remaining unresolved it was handed over to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs who will rule on the matter based on all the information he has received from the various parties.
I have little doubt that Minister will come back with a ruling that reflects the situation. My best guess is that KMS will need to ensure that the 'direction stone' is relocated appropriately and stored and then replaced (facing the right way) once rehabilitation takes place.
According to a media report some time back, the local traditional owners were pushing for a 'large gathering of elder men and women' to determine the significance of the stone. Under the recent legislation in situations where heritage surveys are required the specialist(s) are to be compensated under a standard fee schedule, which includes daily consultation fees, travel expenses, accommodation allowances etc.
Management has also stated that the temporary mining restrictions in place (25m radius to the stone), are not having a material impact on operations.
