Hey @Spizz71. Thanks very much for dropping in that Lucid info so quickly. Really interesting read. From 5,000 vehicles per annum to 155,000. The government backing and vision echoes the UAE's. I wonder how much friendly competition exists between the Emiratis and the Saudis? Ironic hey, that pioneering auto production in these oil-rich countries is for EVs.

A link embedded in the NWTN article on manufacturing Rabdan One EVs in Abu Dhabi (Post #:72340585) contains additional details. Their plant will be in KEZAD. Initially they'll produce 5,000 vehicles annually, expanding to 50,000. However, "Founded in 2016 by Chinese entrepreneur Alan Wu, NWTN recently rebranded and relocated its global headquarters to the UAE." Lepidico gets a mention though:

NWTN will benefit from the proximity to AD Ports Group’s automobile business ecosystem, with the region’s first lithium production facility by Lepidico, the Regional Auto Hub – Abu Dhabi and the Khalifa Port Auto Terminal, the statement said.

M Glory Group will also be manufacturing EVs, in Dubai, with a target of 55,000 annually.

The chart below makes me wonder though if established auto companies may seek a presence in the UAE? Something to keep an eye on.

Mitsubishi has 2 interesting initiatives in Abu Dhabi, one using green hydrogen (Masdar, Mitsubishi Chemical Group and INPEX) and one making green hydrogen (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries), announced in July and December 2023, respectively.

Interestingly, announced 24 October 2023, Mitsubishi will no longer produce its cars in China, but is now collaborating with Renault in their Ampere EV business. "The decision to invest in Ampere comes after Mitsubishi's partners, Renault and Nissan Motor finalised a restructured alliance in July."
