My bad, I thought that only a minimum amount of large flake graphite was needed and even less small sized graphite for plates, when I was looking into it a few months back the quantity required was way less than lithium batteries which were commonly 60kg each battery.
someone may have a better explanation than myself, but the Chinese were producing a small amount of synthetic graphite at very expensive costs due to the immense burning of fossil fuels etc but of late they must have ramped up the usage probably at a loss to combat what were high priced graphite being sold out of Africa in opposition to themselves. Just like the current export restrictions they are trying to squeeze out all opposition, not going to work though and we all know that sourcing synthetic graphite is not going to help the environmental issues of the world.
