I am thinking there may be another reason for the jv to want to ship bigger loads of 30,000 tonnes in the second half of the year, (the loads are too big for the Panama Canal).
There has been faster than normal melting of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean this summer, this should mean the North West Passage will soon be open.
Last year it occurred in August, so I expect there will be a shipment any day from now on.
It would appear that they have been preparing for this by stockpiling spod at NAL and at the port.
It is my guess that there will be at least two shiploads of 30,000 tonnes departing during the summer period.
Transit time is approximately 40% less, so there should be a considerable saving in the cost of shipping.
To be fair, both partners should share in this saving.
How that is done, I am not sure.
