I can’t make up my mind whether they are stupid or just straight-out lying. There are many instances on the record where Bowdens, the Department and the IPC have explained how each metal is weighed and why there are different methods used. But the Lue Action Group continues to make false equivalencies between zinc, lead and silver because it fits their narrative:
“This is a lead mine, we will get lead poisoning and die”.
Which is utter BS.
When I get to this point, I remind myself this:
There are around 20,000 adults in the region (sourced from the Mid-Western Regional Council).
LAG report they have over 500 members and about 1000 individual objections to the mine lodged during the consultation period. So about 1500 people are on the record as objecting to the mine.
This is pretty rubbery as there is double counting involved and this figure definitely includes objections from outside the region and by people not affected by the mine.
But let’s use their figures as it gives an allowance for the silent objectors.
So best case is only 7.5% of residents have been persuaded by LAGs campaign in over 8 years. Real case is probably 2-3% - themselves
