That's probably the best and first port of call, if they're going to be helpful and just provide it to you. Most companies do, they get regular updates from their registry so it's something they should have on hand.
Failing that just email the registry and request a viewing of the register, but I'd mention that you're interested in the current top 20 and tell them you're a holder. Some registries are helpful others make you jump through all the hoops.
Some also want to know the reason you wish to view it, so I'd tell them it's for your personal investment research (the corps act stipulates certain restrictions on the use of register info, that's why they often ask)
Some won't give top 20 info and make you view the whole printout. Sometimes I've taken my notepad, pencil and a coffee and spent an hour sifting through the whole thing. You can't take photos or make copies but you can take your own notes.
It can take a bit of effort sometimes, but it's well worth it I think.
