Seriously though, always had a deep interest in resources but in the early 1980's ( yes, I am an old fart now) doing year 10 work experience at the old BHP O'Connell Street office in Sydney, the head geologist at the time said to me something along the lines of geology is a great career, but there was a resource " depression" at the time, geo's with 10's of years of experience were being laid off and that if I decided to go down that path, I would almost certainly be driving taxi's for 5-10 years after graduation before things turned around.

So I decided to follow the old man, and drill for bugs instead of oil and gas.

Have been investing and learning the ropes since then. In dentistry you have to delve deep into detail, so I guess that has translated into the investing side. Now I have a great team at the surgery, so after working 6 days a week for 20 plus years, have been able to slow down to 3 days a week over the last 6 years and be a lot more active doing this. Really enjoy getting the hands wet, but hate the " small business " side of the job .
