GSMB to Probe Australian Company’s Controversial Talaimannar Mineral Sand ‘Exploration’

The Mannar Citizen Committee, headed by Fr. A.Gnanapragasm, says the land area in Talaimannar is narrowing due to sanderosion and tsunami and cyclonic conditions are being tamed by the accumulationof sand, which is a natural gift. They added that legally or illegallythey would not allow sand to be removed from Talaimannar.

Talking to Ceylon Today, the Priest noted thatthey don’t understand how these local companies could link up with an overseascompany. According to him, those who conducted some sand testing had toldthe villagers that they are trying to dig a well and had not told the real story.



EL370 EL371 EL372 have expired in Oct and Dec 2019. According to the license issuing authority GSMB, the renewal application should be filed two months prior to expiry date. If it’s filed on time the licenses should have been issued by Oct and Dec 2019 respectively. Why is it taking 15 months. Without EL370 drilling the planned 350 holes is not possible.
