Helium is an annoyingly opaque industry, this is the first I'd heard of new supply coming online and there's no exchange ticker or anything that lists a helium price so you can't track it like other commodities. But it makes sense why they'd pause for a bit. I think the comment about putting it on hold due to possible Stairway appraisal is a bit disingenuous, the Stairway is not going to become some massive gamechanger that's going to double the size of the plant. If they're needing the Stairway to get volumes up enough to make it economic I reckon this is dead in the water.
I'd say far more likely is it's on hold because Twin Peaks have come to the brutal realisation of how much it costs to get anything done in Australia, much less in the middle of the Red Centre!
This new helium supply doesn't bode well for Dukas either, I'd say Santos's appetite for drilling there again will remain at zero.
