Classic narcissism. You see narcissists in this setting should be confronted to expose their manipulative tricks, however you can't expect to change their minds, so at some point you have to bow out, and the easiest way to do this is to acquiesce and remove yourself from the conversation in the hope they'll shut up (in the real world you can sever ties). Some of them though, in the back of their mind though, know you really didn't mean it when you say they win, so they quadruple down with walls of repetitious text to justify their actions. They'll then say, "well you can put me on ignore if you don't like what I'm saying", which they fluffing love if you do, because they can then say what ever the fluff they like without being called out. It's a bit of catch-22 in that respect.
