The reason for not building the power line according to a friend who was involved, was due to unrealistic demands from the villages or communities through which the line was to go through. The mayors or chiefs demanded the company to provide a step-down transformer so the local community could have electricity which was not an issue but then they proceeded to demand that the company pay for installation into their houses and pay for usage. Just so you know, we are not talking about a few villages or communities but numerous from Sikasso to Syama. To top it off the government did nothing to help as they were scouting for votes in these regions. Am sure if the government of Mali was supportive in dealing with the distribution of electricity to their people, the grid would be a viable option. The other problem being, if people are not supplied with electricity and RSG was to build a line, then like it happens in DRC, people will move from afar and settle along the grid to steal power and start an industry that will disrupt to the operation, defeating the purpose and business case for a grid.
