everyone on hotcopper seems to think shorters are some rare breed that are always right!! What often happens, is they have enough money ( and often influence with news organisations) behind them to actually move the shares, and/or the holders are more nervous than them.
Been plenty instances where a majority of entities shorting a stock have lost: more recent low profile shorting failures would be Harvey Norman, Metcash nd Silex who showed up on most shorted list for months! Been a few other heavily shorted ones where takeover offers have cost shorters plenty also.
