021121 BOUGAINVILLE COMMUNITY GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS DATES SET NEW DAWN FM NEWS
The Bougainville Electoral Commissioner, GEORGE MANU this afternoon announced new dates for the conduct of the second Bougainville Community Government elections including the Atolls Constituency By-election for the second time. Speaking to reporters in Buka, MR. MANU said that polling for both the Atolls By-election and the second Bougainville Community Government elections will commence on the 22nd of November, 2021. After the end of the 14 days lockdown as he does not want OBEC to be blamed for not following Lockdown measures. For the Atolls By-election polling will begin on 22nd November and a new member for Atolls will be declared on 3rd December, 2021. For the second Bougainville Community Government elections the Electoral Commissioner questioned why many wards had only one nomination whilst some wards had only males and only females nominating and three wards had no nominations at all. MR. MANU said out of the 441 wards throughout Bougainville, 96 Wards had only male candidates,139 wards had all women candidates,68 wards had un-opposed candidates,135 wards will be contested whilst 3 wards had no nomination at all. The Bougainville Electoral Commissioner said that he will declare 68 wards as unopposed winners whilst he will declare failed elections in three wards because they had no nominations at all. A Bye- elections will be conducted for the three seats before the National Elections. He said polling for the Community Government elections will be held on 22nd November and the final declaration will be made on 21st January, 2022. ENDS
