very normal in those circumstances. They never planned to drill diamond tail but the RC Rig struggled to penetrate that ground so Diamond Rig was deployed to finish the hole. They did not need to go further down deep as they noticed the reef was intercepted and therefore had all they needed to complete the job.
just my interpretation and from what I have seen over many years as this is not a unique situation. Happened before.
