Gdn, Good point re Kiland. But from my memory the company was formed out of a failed WA based forestry scheme. I could be wrong but i think retail investors had got caught up in the scheme and ST approached them on mass to buy their interest in the scheme out for cents in the dollar. So strangely rhymes with carpetbagging insurance members / companies in the UK in the 90's perhaps?
I don't imagine ST had necessarily long term intentions as an investor but perhaps the lack of liquidity trapped them, or they had a Richard Gere (pretty woman) moment and decided to build a business rather than break it up or flick it on, or whatever. It has certainly morphed greatly, especially in the last few years and changed focus due to several reasons as i'm sure you know. Even Charlie Aitken recently got rather interested in it as a pure Ag play....
