You obviously don't understand what has happened in NSW. The debt is less than what it otherwise would be (for the short term) but at what cost? For example, selling the Land Titles Office and privatising toll roads provided short term cash to reduce debt but now LTO fees are much higher in real terms and toll fees have gone up so much that both Liberal and Labor Governments are subsidising the toll fees to such an extent that it makes the amount obtained from selling off the farm look ridiculously small. The Rozelle Connection has been an absolute disaster. The WestConnex is so expensive to use and will become more so with the ratchet increase in tolls of the greater of CPI increase (inflation) and 4%pa that the Government will have to subsidise its use. The Government hasn't the money to invest in social housing which is now necessary if essential workers are to remain in Sydney and not go interstate where in some cases wages are even higher than in NSW. My claim is that in Australia a free market economy has not existed for some time. Name me an industry where the top 2-4 of leaders don't have (say) 80% of the market? If it is accepted that gas for households will be phased out within the next (say) 20 years, isn't it sensible not to have new infrastructure (housing) connected to gas as all it means that at some stage the infrastructure will otherwise need replacing?
