I would be surprised if they wanted to touch Cockatoo as inevitably the various issues and problems to resolve to make it a viable, (and operationally safe) long term mining proposition will in my view cost more than you think. A bit like taking over the construction of a half built high-rise from a failed contractor, in that it's not until you get into the nitty gritty of the asset that you start to see all the issues that need to be fixed or otherwise need to be ripped out and start again.
For mine, I would much prefer that they look at greenfield projects for investment.
