Cheers ccd, I'd missed that. It was interesting that the majority of power for the HPAL plant at ENC will come from heat offtake from sulphuric acid production, not from the large solar array. Must be one hell of an exothermic reaction. I checked, and there's a lot of literature about energy recovery in sulphuric acid plants.
When the ENC project was announced, we had a few complaints here about the cost of buying in, but it looks like we will have a highly efficient state of the art plant. The closures other firms have had forced on them recently, because of inefficient production, indicate the value of efficiency.
I live in a town that has a major sulphuric acid plant, part of a super-phosphate facility. It was, and may still be, the largest sulphuric acid plant in the southern hemisphere. There have never been environmental issues that I'm aware of, so I'm thinking ENC should be relatively benign in its area. I think it was NIC's Chairman who said in his report that ENC will also have state of the art tailings management.
