No, not strange. Economics and contingencies rule despite political opinions. Many countries are facing increasing electricity demands (Asia especially) while others have faced restrictions on alternatives (such as natural gas and fission) and so have increased their coal plants because other options cannot deliver in a timely manner, or at a competitive price.
Stupid greenies think that if they pontificate, demand, and protest, they can change the world. Problem for them is that the rest of the world wants to live a normal kind of life, or even improve on it.
We saw the same kind of disconnect between reality and correct opinion a few years ago with tobacco. Some of the best investments were in tobacco companies. Investors dumped them but smokers still wanted their products. Some people profited very nicely as a result.
