yes, that is good call. companies only do that when they experience difficult production period... aka reported future challenges and now feel it is important to inform the market things are not getting any worse. this is not the case with ALK and Nic's decision to release the high-level update was the right way to do it.
Basically, Nic said without saying things are running as per plan.
