As far as I know you can only get leases/licences for aquaculture in Australia - you can’t just buy the water like freehold land. However the leases tend to be long term and renewal is generally a formality for the incumbent with the relevant regulator (state fisheries department) unless they have seriously stuffed up. I invested in AS1 seed and did a lot of work around this but that was years ago and these have been in the bottom drawer so haven’t had my head in it for a while.
