I don't think surfaces are the real issue - not that they know of anyway. It's that it can be caught from fleeting contact. It means that lockdowns alone aren't eliminating covid anymore, they're more just flattening the curve, because the permissable trip to the supermarket can involve spread, which it generrally didn't with the original strain. If the contact tracers can't get close contacts out of regular lockdown and into isolation before covid becomes infectious, it's going to keep spreading, which is where Sydney and all of SE Asia are at at the moment. It's all about lockdown to flatten the curve whilst we hold out for the vaccine to be in enough arms now.
