Really interesting read for the dynamics in O&G in Canada, very recent article probably from an industry lobby group, shows the depth of feeling for the political system impact on development. As the article quite rightly points out LNG is displacing coal (2-3 times CO2 per j) in Asian countries and BC Alberta are spitting distance to growing Asian economies.
"Significantly, the emergence of the massive,7 cost-competitive Montney shale gas reserves in northeast British Columbia and northwest Alberta represents a key opportunity for Canadian LNG potential developments. Regrettably, in spite of the emergence of these abundant new natural gas reserves, Canada’s reputation as having a reliable, predictable and efficient regulatory system has significantly eroded among industry and international investors."
