Plough - following on from your point about welding stainless steel (assuming they are stainless components, which seems more than likely)then you really have to ask questions about the testing and inspection regimes (QA systems)they have in place for critical components, given that several major components, electric motor, now agitators have failed.

Stainless Steel is very susceptible to flaws/defects if the welding procedure in not correct or not adhered to. Furthermore, Stainless Steel is highly susceptible to fatigue failure if there is any cyclic loading (continual movement). Its either poor welding practices or poor design that has caused the current failures. But anyone with even a small amount of engineering knowledge should have understood the possible failure modes!

I am still sticking with PGI and actually believe the process is working, but Site Management (can't blame CEO yet) are really making it an expensive and tortuous path with stupid and preventable mistakes.

The agitators are an easy fix provided its done properly with the right expertise and supervision! A experienced welding (Aussie) supervisor as a witness in the contractors workshop would be a good investment!
