No kidding. I watched as Amex credit cards replaced American Express travellers cheques (they had an office in Hong Kong), and then Bankcard (TM), and more recently (in a way) - personal cheques. I'm well aware of the history of credit cards.
You've said that things have changed. Credit cards are no longer the exclusive financial instruments of the wealthy.
Maybe other things have changed also. Maybe credit such as BNPL isn't just for the exclusive use by the poor? Maybe the middle to upper classes also use such services.
Here's a loaded question for you. I have an Afterpay account - so I must be poor, right? What makes me poor - what income and debt to asset ratio should I have in order to fit your profile?
