That may be your 1980's excepted logic of what traders do... but that's old school.
A modern, fresh and better way to make money is to wait for a clear bottom to be hit, don't give into pretend bottoms where the SP has a 1-2c rise. Don't buy half way through a down trend.
Wait for gaps to be closed, trend lines to be broken, bullish candles to appear.

Then hold until momentum has peaked, don't sell like the rest of the suckers (old schoolers) before spud and miss out on the best part of potential gains. 101 oilers will sell out prior to spud but the best runs are yet to have happened. That's a sucker play.

Buy high, hold for a long time, and then sell before the best gains are had just doesn't seem like the best thing to do.
