The Australian government pays pathologies $100 per PCR test currently. Not 5 cents.

PCR test for the presence of COVID19 but not the presence of pneumonia. ResAppDx test for the presence of pneumonia but not specifically for the presence of COVID19. The 2 tests look for different things and are therefore not directly comparable. The performance of one test does not mean the other doesn’t need to be performed. Assuming that to be the case is as silly as saying if you had a blood test you don’t need a chest xray. PCR testing and ResAppDx look for different things but are synergistic, as they both provide useful information to the clinician for management of the patient.

Furthermore, for those who think ResAppDx carries legal liability because of its less than 100% accuracy. That’s total rubbish. PCR has a reported sensitivity of 70-91% and specifically of 95%. In other words, there’s a false negative rate of up to 30%. Does that mean clinicians don’t use PCR? Does that mean the PCR company or the lab or the doctor will get sued for all the false negatives?? No!!

Whenever clinicians order and interpret tests we understand that no test is 100% accurate and we manage the patient with this knowledge and expectation. That’s why diagnostic test results are interpreted in the whole medical context, and not by a lay person without a doctor’s supervision!

By the way, ResAppDx shows sensitivity and specificity of 80-90%. Compares very well indeed the PCR and is 1/10th the cost of PCR. Can be done remotely without cross infection risk, unlike the PCR

So there you. Felt I had to say something. Absolutely flabbergasted what all this rubbish is all about comparing PCR with ResAppDx.
