Buntine is not a new food in the way that vegetable meat vs natural meat is. It is another type of crop that delivers similar ingredients as soy, peas, etc. That gives WOA the task of convincing food manufacturers that their new product is better than other similar products that are well known, well understood, readily accepted by the consumer, and available internationally in bulk. I am not saying that buntine cannot/will not succeed, just that progress will be slow, painful and expensive.
I am reminded of the Sony Betamax vs JVC's VHS story. The superior product did not win the market but consumed a heap of money and effort before it was abandoned.
Maybe WOA can develop a niche amongst vegan suppliers, like it has begun to do, but they need more than that to keep the German plant alive.
