OMH’s Sarawak smelter produced 43,535 mt of ferrosilicon in the third quarter of 2017 and 61,517 mt of manganese alloys (silicomanganese and high-carbon ferromanganese. Third-quarter sales were 45,889 mt of ferrosilicon and 60,299 mt of manganese alloys. The average daily tonnage was approximately 61 mt of ferrosilicon, 100 m of silicomanganese and 142 mt of high-carbon ferromanganese.
Sarawak had 14 furnaces in operation in the third quarter, seven producing standard-grade ferrosilicon, one producing refined ferrosilicon, and six making manganese alloys.
OMH plans to convert two furnaces to manganese alloys in 2018 after undertaking a strategic review.
The company’s Bootu Creek manganese mine in Australia produced 200,878 mt of ore grading 35.84% (148,906 mt of lumpy and 51,972 mt of fines/SPP) while shipments were 251,105 mt (183,385 mt of lumps and 67,720 mt of fines/SPP) grading 35.89%.
The company’s Qinzhou manganese operation in China produced 9,130 mt of manganese alloys and 16,351 mt of manganese sinter ore, selling 9,241 mt of manganese alloys and 6,345 mt of manganese sinter ore.
The C1 unit operating cost for the third quarter was A$3.67 per dmtu ($2.90 per dmtu).
