Following its review, the Federal Government has decided not to fund Inland Rail works between Beveridge and Tottenham (Victoria), so Beveridge will be the southernmost location for operation of double-stacked intermodal trains on the Inland Rail route.
This on the face of it appears to be a slap in the face to QUB rival, unlisted Pacific National, although a second intermodal terminal at Truganina in Melbourne's western suburbs will still allegedly be developed.
Don't hold your breath for either, especially since the Federal Government has yet to approve further Inland Rail works between Parkes, NSW and the outer western suburbs of Brisbane, let alone the direct standard gauge connection to the Port of Brisbane that many believe is essential.
No wonder we as a nation are falling behind!
