It does not necessarily mean that Sayona would be involved however in Tesla's drive to get battery prices down where they are competitive with ICE engines they have squeezed just about all they can out of manufacturing efficiencies. Investing in the supply chain is one of the next logical steps. Canada is home to Nickle, Cobalt, Lithium, and graphite. Once NAL and Nemaska are up and running they will also have 2 hydroxide plants with cheap hydro electricity running them.They would also have the ONLY cobalt processing plant in North America. Canada is also home to some of the worlds best brains in the battery world.
It would be easy to see why Elon might jump at the chance to build a full on battery hub, and he might be the only one in the world right now who has the money and guts to do it.
It does not necessarily mean that Sayona would be involved...
