Hi CBD,
The vertical tail skins and spars now being produced by QHL for Marand as part of Marand's contribution to the JSF, are being manufactured I believe using Quickstep's technologies, i.e RST/Qure (not traditional autoclave), so now fully qualified I would think with the American Defense department, well in this context anyway. I'm sure the US govt would have to vet and signoff anything of this nature presented to them by Northrup and Lockheed, let alone the hoops QHL have had to jump through for those two organisations. A big achievement for such a small company.
The Ford deal is small no doubt and wouldn't surprise me if they did lose money, but could it have made a difference to the Koreans/KIST looking at their technology and seeing it applied successfully commercially, not just Ford but the Hawkei project they've been awarded also? We'll never know but I reckon it all helps and leaves open a potential game changer if the Koreans take it on.
