I sincerely hope no one bought into RCE specifically because they thought it would be the magical cure for COVID. Sounds like a great plot for a movie, but in reality there is NO way a novel drug with no human trials is going to be pushed as the solution. Unless things were REALLY desperate, but COVID is no where near deadly enough for that. If it was that deadly you'd get a China-style forced lockdown long before they started pumping novel drugs into everyone. And trust me, if this thing was as contagious as the flu but as deadly as Ebola you wouldn't see people protesting a lockdown in the streets for very long... because they would be dead.
What COVID has done has brought attention to the lack of decent anti-viral solutions we have, which is a boost for companies like RCE that are exploring novel new drugs. RCE has used this attention to accelerate their testing plans, broaden their options and raise capital. Everything is going as planned for the company, just more so. And faster. I guess it's easier for me to see the broader picture because I invested last year long before COVID.
We were never going to be the solution for this pandemic, but we may just be the solution to the next one.
