Really have no idea mate, but few possibilities are:
-They haven’t attempted to publish
-They’ve submitted it and if it was to Nature or similar journal it’s possible they were asked to perform more experiments to tie up the mechanisms behind the findings. If it’s large scale change they might reject it and ask to re-submit further down the track with big changes.
