I think of it more like:
You made an iceblock from Coca-Cola and then Coca-Cola asking you: "Ok, we know our product can do that, But how did you do it and how does it do it?".

You say: "Here i'll show you and the details, but I want something in return".

There's no stopping coca-cola discovering it themselves (except time and money, and time is money, so the question becomes, is more value added by getting more data/information on your product and what/how its capable of by paying for it or doing it yourself?).

Add In future collaborative efforts to make it to shelves etc.

Only part I'm missing: Did CoH have a pending patent on "iceblocks" (and whether it would have held any weight).
