I've thought the same. Friction between JC and DT. One of them had to go to put an end to whatever the problem was. DrT may have reasoned - "if JC goes he could potentially become another BG destroying the SP and value for shareholders & if he stays he may sell a few but no where near as bad if he was the one gone".
Remembering DrT is also a SH and he needs to protect his own investment.
