Stem cell transplants are not often given to solid tumour patients these days as they are very risky, but in leukemias if you survive you are often cured. For whatever reason haematologists are a lot more aggressive in treating cancer than solid tumour oncologists - my best guess is haematologists can get most of their patients to a cure, while for solid tumours it is more about delaying progress once the patient's cancer has gone metastatic.
