I never appreciated how true the Collingwood support stereotype was until I moved down to Victoria in the mid-00s. Soon after I arrived I was taken to a Collingwood - Carlton game by one of my new colleagues who was a mad Carlton supporter. He, either through incompetence or neglect, bought us tickets right in the middle of the hardcore ’pies members section - of course he kindly supplied me with the full Carlton kit to wear. You will all be shocked to learn we were the only people wearing Carlton colours for about 50m.

To add to the thrill of the experience my colleague then proceeded to yell abuse at all the Collingwood players and their supporters - I still don’t know how we managed to make it through the game (likely only because Collingwood won), but I did manage to observe close-up the die-hard ‘pies supporters in all their glory.
