Flow rate is important, however, the pressure gradient (and other data ) indicates the potential reservoir size. Picture the reservoir as a balloon. If you let some air out the internal pressure in the balloon might drop a lot which could indicate a small balloon. If on the other hand , you let some air out and there is no negligible drop in internal pressure , that would indicate a much larger balloon(reservoir).
