I think if I have a drink "on the rocks" and remove the biggest blocks of ice, my drink will be less diluted... same amount of alcohol in the glass but more concentrated... the way it should be lol.
In terms of the ore, it would be stupid not to remove the lower grade coarser material. Simple. Effective. Beneficiation.... any process that improves the economic value of the ore by removing the gangue minerals, which results in a higher grade product and a waste stream.
