I remember reading a book on investment years ago (its a famous one, but cant recall the name), and he was advising that the higher the risk/volatility of a stock, the longer we should be holding it to negate/manage that risk. Completely counterintuitive to me, but it makes sense on reflection after many years. Unfortunately, most interpret the volatility as opportunities to make a quick buck instead of seeing the bigger picture, and then spit their dummy when they're not rich within a week.
