I did some flight sim training a few years ago and one of the airports I was meant to land at was Queenstown because of the technical difficulty of landing there. Surrounded by mountains, crosswinds, good when there is an easterly because you can come down the lake, southerly or westerly challenging. Below is the AIR NZ A320 flightpath from yesterday, fly over the Cardrona valley, drop down and bank hard right and follow the Gibston valley into the airport. Plenty of steep terrain either side. They don't come from the the Cromwell side of the range ever as far as I am aware, too rugged and steep, no glide path. Dude has no idea, put him on ignore. No planes, no wine, no Kiwi. For the record, 3 attempts, approach not quite straight 3 times, fire trucks (simulated) required 3 times, one success albeit on the grass. Thinking that doesn't count either!
