Good summary. Sometimes the RAB rig might give troubles if there is water around or puggy clay etc (because the sample is returned to surface by the force of air along the outside of the drill rods/stem in the space between the drill rods/stem and the hole that's just been drilled) so then you change up to AC drilling which is a more expensive but you can overcome most issues to recover good samples down to the base of weathering (ie down to where the rock starts to get hard and you need to hammer it [not cut/scrape it] to progress the depth of the hole). RAB drilling is considered to not give a completely reliable sample as the sample can get contaminated by material that's dragged up from the side of the hole and mixes with material from the bottom of the hole. In AC drilling the air forces the material up through the middle of the drill rod/stem so there is far less chance of contamination from material higher up in the hole.

RAB is good for doing a lot of cheap metres at an early stage of exploration when you are more interested to know if the mineralisation is there or not, and not so interested in measuring how much is there. AC/RC/DD is more reliable for determining down hole metal distributions. Esh
