They've named Darwin's lithium-ion battery factory "Renaissance ONE".
In line with 24M's technology, smaller plants will be possible compared with previous plants.
Renaissance ONE has a 1GWh Capacity, and the CSIRO is predicting that Australia by itself will require 90GWh of battery storage. There will obviously be a TWO, THREE etc.
I thought it was strange that Darwin got the nod over WA, but it's possible this plant might just be the start.
To choose to have a 15GWh plant in Townsville I can't quite wrap my head around. There are doubts over the future of Clive Palmer's Yabulu nickel refinery, so maybe there are plans afoot involving more than just lithium. There's also a bit of cobalt in NSW and Qld - I'm really not sure.
