Sorry have to disagree Carna. I've just completed my Master's in BIM and the days of Architectural paper plans are long gone. The BIM model is a life like parametric representation of real world plant. All drawings are actually produced from the model these days. A complete reversal from CAD 20 years ago.
Once the model reaches LOD 300 it's considered Issued For Construction. This is then passed onto the fabricator to take it to LOD 400 which includes all detail cutting of beams via CNC and includes all details of fixings fasteners etc. This is the same across structural, piping and mechanical disciplines.
In fact BIM models are used for facility management so the owner can manage servicing, maintenance and the cost of the plant over the lifecycle of it.
Its a completely different world in engineering these days
