My dad held MBN he had a certain amount of shares, (I forgot how much) after the restructure he had 98% less shares but the share price sky rocketed. From memory he had something like 100,000 shares and next day he logged in to his commsec account and ended up with 2,000 shares.
They simply change the ownership of the shares at the registry.
